When Gorsley Goffs Primary School was on the lookout for new school hand dryers, Utility Rentals had the solution ready and waiting.

In this case study, you’ll find out what the school was looking for and what you should look for in school hand dryers. We’ll also tell you about that special Utility Rentals’ touch that helped the school make some great savings.

What was Gorsley Goffs Primary School looking for?

The staff at Gorsley Goffs Primary School wanted to bin their paper towels once and for all, and adopt cheaper, more efficient hand dryers.

The school wanted to achieve two things in particular: to cut energy usage and make savings on the school budget. But, at the same time, the school management wanted to make their washrooms more hygienic and welcoming for students.

After chatting with our team and perusing our range of hand dryers for schools, Gorsley Goffs soon found the solution it was looking for.

By giving Utility Rentals a call, the school got themselves up and running with 10 shiny new Airdri Quazar Hand Dryers for the student washrooms. We set them up on a flexible lease arrangement and made sure they’d have all maintenance covered for the life of their contract (potentially saving them a bundle).

What to consider when choosing school hand dryers

You should have a good idea of what you’re looking for before going on the hunt for new school hand dryers. These are the top three things we think you should keep your eyes peeled for:

1) The model that’s right for you

Like Goldilocks, you’re looking for the sweet spot when it comes to school hand dryers.

You want them to be powerful enough to dry your students’ hands thoroughly enough to avoid bacterial nasties. And, quick enough to make sure they aren’t waiting around forever, potentially missing lesson time.

But, you also need to find a model that’s relatively quiet and not too scary for younger students. And, one that’s got some serious eco-credentials. We’ll give you expert advice on all of this and more.

2) Cost savings

Hand dryers are undoubtedly cheaper and better for the environment than paper towels in the long-term.

It takes far less energy to run a hand dryer than to manufacture, transport and dispose of a constant supply of paper towels, after all.

But, there’s so much variety, you can make even more savings by looking for a hand dryer model with a high energy-efficiency rating.

And, with school budgets stretched, it’s often tough to earmark enough money to make a change when you want to. That’s where a flexible rental arrangement – which spreads the cost over the full term of the contract – comes into its own.

3) Comprehensive package

While you want to save your school budget, you don’t want to scrimp on quality. You need a package that’s got you covered from start to finish, including:

  • Cost-effective hand dryers
  • Installation
  • Five-year warranty
  • A team of experts on hand to support you

With all this included in your regular rental payments, you can get back to focusing on what really matters; your students.

The Utility Rentals’ touch

Let’s start with a look at how our solution stacked up against the things Gorsley Goffs’ thought were most important; eco-friendliness and budget savings.

First, a spot of maths.

The school was blowing a hefty £850 on paper towels every year. All the hand dryers combined cost £73 a year to run, while the total project cost was £3,700 with a payback period of 4.7 years. This gives the school a mighty annual saving of £777.

We got them fully set up and will provide free maintenance for their entire contract term – all as part of this single cost.

Site Manager Mike Williams said that we “came back with the best result”, and that the cost was “somewhat lower” than the alternatives. He also “felt it was the better option where maintenance was concerned”.

But, we know it takes more to create a top-notch service. That’s why we were particularly chuffed to hear Mr Williams explain how “all contact with the company has been good” and that he was “highly likely to recommend” us to other primary schools.
